Why do insecure men try to manipulate situations and gaslight women?

I've talked to this guy near where I live and after a while I realize how fucked up he is. He started playing games, he's insecure, I think he might be narcissistic and he's trying to gaslight me.

A lot of his friends wanted to talk to me themselves but he talked to me first. He let it be known so that none of them would try to talk to me. I think he's making it look like he's trying to start a relationship with me to others when he's really just playing games/ trying to play me.

What is the purpose of trying to manipulate & gaslight people? What can a man possibly gain control over? We're not dating & he's not trying to date me. Is it to make me want him/ chase him?

Women use verbal abuse tactics more than men, just as men use physical abuse more often than women. Fun fact. The purpose to manipulate someone is to gain control. Gas lighting makes someone question their own sense of reality which makes them more vulnerable to do what the abuser wants them to do.

If your character is solid it doesn't matter what some dweeb tries to do to it, lie to others, or whatever. None of this is really adding up.
What exactly is 'over here'? Are you talking about some small country and that everybody in that country knows who you are? If so, it doesn't matter what some idiot says. But I don't believe that for a second.
