What does it mean when a guy says im happy for you?

So i popped up to my ex on the weekend. we haven't spoken in months. and everytime i texted he replied within 30 mins-1hr

He also never said anything to end the convo, he asked questions and added things

i told him i finally quit my job and he replied 'thats so good im really glad you did', and then later said 'im really happy for you'

does any of this mean anything. Bc i thought talking to an ex all of this wouldn't happen if we still didn't have feelings for each other still.

by the way we broke up in a nice way - and kept in contact after we broke up for a bit but then couldnt move on cause we both liked each other

It's hard to tell but if he sounded genuine he was most likely honestly happy for you. Especially if it wasn't a ugly breakup

Also the fact that he responds so quickly I always took that as interest and the fact he isn’t shutting the convo down. I think he likes still talking to me

Sounds like he still likes you. Your right, the fact that he responds quickly and doesn't shut conversations down means he enjoys talking to you and seems genuinely happy when your life is going well.
