Does it mean something if a guy cries over losing you?

We have been off and on hooking up for about 7 months now... he lives in 3000 miles away. I'm going to be living part time in his area now and we've recently started realizing that we would never really work in a relationship. We just both want very different things and aren't ultimately compatible. We'd just fight all the time but we both love each other a lot. He told me I am the best friend he's ever had and he wants me in his life forever. That he wants to be friends even if that means no sex... although he says the sex with me is amazing and he's very attracted to me (and of course wouldn't mind if it happened occasionally). I, however, said I don't think I can be just his friend and that I think we should stop talking. When i said this, he started sobbing. he rolled over in bed and wouldn't let me touch him. He went to the bathroom and then came back, still crying and I asked why he was mad at me and he said "im not mad at you, im mad at the situation." and later told me how much it hurt him that I could just cut him out of my life forever. We are both kind of involved with other people and we have both gotten jealous but also want each other to be happy. I'm confused about what i want. We got into a fight about the girl he's involved with which is what led me to decide i couldn't be his friend... but what I want to know is... Does he really love me or is this just bullshit? Does it really mean something when a guy legit cries in front of you?

I guess he's probably upset because he loves you but you just don't work (like you said) because ultimately he knows there's nothing that can be done to fix it, so he hates the fact that it's the best decision. I guess it could be because he perhaps thinks there's something he can do but knows he won't get a chance to try it. If that makes any sense. Sounds more like he really loves you and wants you in his life. won't lie some guys can turn on the waterworks to make a situation turn the way they want it to. If its legit crying and sobbing then he's showing you his true feelings.

it didn't feel fake. it felt like he was embarrassed and trying to stop it and hide it. but you're right that guys can fake it. but it does sound like he meant it? he's done a ton of things for me recently and gone above and beyond for me. he at one point told me he needed me in his life.

Yes it sounds like he meant it and he loves you. here's the thing. No relationship is perfect. Opposites attract because you compliment eachother. Love is not easy and takes a lot of work. It involves give and take, honesty and compromising.

hahahaha no, she definitely exists... i already knew for sure she did but our fight was because i got drunk and went through his messages on his apple watch like a crazy person and saw stuff. nothing serious, just flirty shit and them calling each other babe but the fact that i felt tempted to do that was why i was like hey man, we can't be friends. he wasn't even that mad at me for going through his phone. he was like "im not happy about it but i still trust you. this is a weird situation. im so sorry"

he's not the best friend i've EVER had haha but he is one of my best friends. he says he's never felt this way about anyone before and while he isn't 100% sure we shouldn't date but is like 80% sure it's a bad idea and that he'd lose me if we did. I agree dating is a bad idea but being friends when we are on this level just seems impossible. I don't know what to do.

it is weird. it's been really weird. we have both tried to end it but circumstance kinda kept bringing us around each other and then in the last like two months we both realized how well we get along and understand each other. he says he's never felt this way about anyone before but knows that if we date, we'd just end up breaking up and he'd be heartbroken or hurt me and then hed lose me. he's not wrong, we do want different things in relationships. but sometimes its hard to believe when a guy says stuff like this. him crying though really seemed genuine. he's a very tough guy, plays lots of sports, isn't a crier at alll. suuuuuper guarded. but i just wanted some other guy opinons.
