Yeah, if he's asked you out for a few drinks, it probably means he wants to get to know you.

Drinking but not getting drunk is a great way to get to know someone because you loosen up and I know when I do this, I feel a lot more comfortable chatting and just conversing with someone about anything and everything.

I wouldn't say that he doesn't want more than friends, he's probably just gauging whether you like him, and whether he would maybe want to try more than just friends.

The fact that he doesn't want to get sh*tfaced is a GOOD sign. He's not just after a drunken quickie -not that there's anything wrong with that, if that's want you want too. But you wouldn't be asking if that was all you wanted.
As for the weekend -it sounds like he may have been shot down before. He's asking you to give him a call as a way of not sounding too eager, and to see if you're interested as well.

It could be. A lot of guys (and girls for that matter) use a bit of "bottled courage" to overcome those new relationship jitters. He may be worried that he's not interesting enough (it's very hard to say without more details), or that he'll get all tongue-tied. Or maybe he is only after a bit of companionship. Talk to him. Listen -really listen to what he's saying. But he likes you. You can be sure of that. Guys don't ask out girls they don't like.

Well IM not sure how accurate my answer will be since I'm not 21 yet but here is what I think. If he wants to go out for drinks, that's just another word for saying lets go out to get to know each other. Yea I mean you can get some alcohlic drinks but he obviously wants you to stay somewhat sober and responsive with him. Cause if he wanted you drunk, he'll just invite you to a bar or party.
