Why would a guy try to impress an unattractive girl?

There this guy that is really hot. He's the hottest guy I've ever seen and I don't seem like the kind of girl he'll like. He dresses really different from when I first met him. He tries really hard to impress me to the point he buys me stuff like roses, candy, and expensive stuff. I rejected him because I'm scared of what everyone would say about it. He got really really upset so I guess he really liked me. Even after I rejected him he tries to impress me. You can tell it's messing with his self esteem and confidence. He feels like he's not good enough. Whats funny about this, is that there are 2 other guys who try to impress me except they don't buy me stuff. I'm not pretty and a lot of people told me that I'm not. I don't know why he's so attracted me. I like him the most out of all guys and I think about him all day but I don't know what to do. When I tell people like my friends that he likes me they find it unbelievable and make excuses like "hes just being nice" or "he thinks you're easy"

You have low self esteem. You believe what you did hurt the guy you like. You seem really sure about the damage your rejection did to him too! No, I can't tell if it's messing with his self esteem, that's what you saw from your perspective. To me your situation looks like you are celebrating the fact that you could hurt the self esteem of the guy you like (at least in your fantasy), dragging him to your level. Of course you don't think you are doing that.
