Do you think maybe he just thinks there is not point in staying in touch since he is so far away now and there likely would be no outcome? I did not think he was serious so i never said it back but he said it once when he was leaving via text and again when i reached out after he already left

yeah like the time he was here wasn't long enough to be in love to follow someone. We never seriously dated because we both knew he was moving back home after a few months but i think we both caught feelings. I think if we knew each other longer maybe it would have been different but it was over a short period.

That might be the case. If he truly cared about you the distance wouldn't be that much of an obstacle. What do you mean nothing can come of it? Sex? That shouldn't be what a guys after. Getting to know you, growing closer until you finally meet again would be the goal of a caring man.
