How can you tell if a guy genuinely likes you or if he just wants sex?

I recently met this guy at work who’s really nice and I kinda like him. But so many girls like him and I think he does flirt with a lot of people so I keep my distance from him. He told me that I was very pretty and I think maybe I make him nervous because he laughs a lot when talking to me at things that weren’t even that funny but I don't know. He also asked my friend if I had a boyfriend but I feel like he probably just wants sex.

The few Opinions before mine are good.

These are my add on:

1) guys in general are attracted to girls whom they find sexy or pretty.

This is what i called the "first spark".

Forget love and platonic friendship and such. If the guy doesn't have sexual attraction for you, he won't ask you out for romantic dates.

2) so the guy had advanced. Now the ball is in your court.

Since you find him attractive, then fan that "first spark". Make it into a fire.

That's where you get to know each other better, even sexually.

And eventually, you can answer the big question: do you love each other?

If yes, progress to next base.

Otherwise that fire will die and you'll both part.

It gets very tricky when you really fall for someone - we are all told it's just sex so the best part is given up (and so that we could be as jaded as the old creeps that never had the courage).
You need to get him away from others, calmly, into a nice environment, somewhere there are no threats he needs to protect you from - then you can go far with each other.
Just watch out for angry blockers of happiness - they are everywhere (ignoring them works, or - even better - get used to you and your man fighting them back together)

Just go on dates with him and find out. That's what they're for. He gets to know you better, you get to know him better, and then you both can judge if you're both fit for each other.
