Do some guys not want to actually date a really pretty girl they think is too pretty for them?

I met this guy online and we were chatting for a bit, and he’s like yeah I’m you’re way too pretty for me so I’m not even going to ask you out. And granted he is a little rough around the edges looking but that’s my type... ? It doesn’t look like it would be my type since I’m girly and whatever but yeah and now im kinda bummed. Is this a thing for guys?

So he told me he has depression and anger issues and is on meds and just isn’t in the place right now for anything more than a hookup and said I didn’t seem the type

It's true that some guys won't even attempt to talk to a girl that they don't believe they have a chance with. It stems from a fear of rejection. Still, this guy kind of asked you out in the guise of not asking you out. I'm willing to bet he brought it up just so you'd say "You should ask me out, though."

I ‘date’ pretty much anyone nice, looks are kinda separate, kind of like I flirt with anyone.

this does mean I have walked in to bars with an incredibly attractive girl one week, then the next week some with a few extra pounds and not quite a bus chaser, the main thing for me was they were both really nice people.

When a really attractive woman shows interest in me on line, I assume it's a scam. Fat, middle aged guys with some money are catfish heaven. Luckily, I can always tell be the way they write. I am into girls who are of a similar attractiveness to me. But I wouldn't tell a girl that they are out of my league, because girls do not want to hear that. I just don't want to look like I am someone else's little brother. But that may just be me.

Yeah fr and also like he doesn’t seem like he’s genuine like men are naturally wired to be attracted to good-looking women, so physically, it’s not really possible. like if men have the opportunity to ask a beautiful girl out, they will. to the owner of this question, i say stop overthinking about it and move on. he seems like he wanted an escape and that’s fine. like, i know i’m kind of young and all, but from what i’ve experienced, a number of boys have visibly liked me like so many but some boys just could never get to like me and it’s just the way it is. it’s really interesting how our perspectives on beauty can be extremely different, so if someone doesn’t find you attractive, it doesn’t matter at all. it’s clear that he wanted an escape without hurting you, to bluntly say it.
