Guys, Why wouldn’t he delete my contact info?

So long story short this guy hasn’t been talking to me properly and has basically excluded himself because of covid and wanting to protect himself and his family. Well I’ve been very compromising and understood we can limit to just phone call once a week ans texting but he hasn’t phone called at all but texts for quick checkins. Lately he even stopped doing that so I told him since he doesn’t have time for me let’s stop talking. He can delete my contact info. He said “why would I delete you?”
I don’t understand why he wouldn’t?

In most cases, we know contacts of people we are close to off-head, so it might not matter whether it’s in his phone or whatever, but still I am wondering why you would care if he has your contacts or not, there are many contacts in our phones for instance and they don’t call or do shit, even if we do, why should be bother?
