Why would a guy chase a girl for over a year?

We've matched on tinder numerous times which he says he finds funny. We've been in and out of contact for over a year now. We've had sex. He'll give mixed signals like "it's just sex", "you're not going to use me are you?" and ask me if I'm afraid of being alone and if I want kids in the future.

I feel some sort of weird connection with him and I get happy when he texts. We joke around with eachother and obviously know eachother quite well now, eventhough we have only met once as we both have very busy jobs.

Why does he even still text me? Has anyone else been in a similar situation and what happened?
