Why is my friend’s boyfriend judgmental of me?

He always criticises me and my looks. He goes “why do you always wear white tops” or “why do you always curl your hair” in a really judgmental tone. He also said I’m “not all that, not even that hot and that he’s hotter” in front of everyone when someone said I was pretty. He also calls me slow and stupid, Why is he so rude? He used to like me before him and my friend started dating and he always said I was pretty then. I get not flirting with me that’s inappropriate, but he doesn’t need to be mean.
