Guys, why would you tell a girl that you're glad that you got to know each other?

Both started out dating and are intimate with each other. However, he stopped initiating contact and blames it on being busy. One night in bed he said that he is glad that they got to know each other (shared interests etc.). Why would he say that if he doesn't seem very interested when they don't see?

One thing about guys, if they're interested you know. If you have to ask, they're not. Sounds like he enjoys getting the fringe benefits you are giving him and just says nice things after so he doesn't feel guilty

That's true of course. Yet his lack of enthusiasm especially when we don't see (initiating, keeping conversations going, scheduling dates...) is remarkable.
