What does it mean when a guy goes out of his way to talk to you?

(This is for my sister, and she’s 14) We just moved and my sister says that a guy in her class came out of his way to talk to her. Apparently, he seems nice and friendly (maybe a little too much for my taste) when they talk, but he doesn’t smile or greet her if he sees her in the hallway? Is it normal for guys to do this? For added context, She’s kind of cute too, but not your average popular girl - she’s sometimes an insufferable know-it-all and overeager to answer any question in class, but very friendly and will talk to anyone. However, I’m terrified that they’re going to hurt her as she’s been pitifully deprived of guys for the past few years in COVID and doesn’t know anything about how they act.

And while we’re at it, do guys like it when girls always know the answer to every question in class or do they think of them to be too overeager and annoying?

To be honest I like girls that are smart. It doesn’t matter if they are a know it all, it just motivates me to work, study and learn harder. If he goes out of his way to talk to u, then he probably feels like he has someone to talk to about something important or anything. Maybe he doesn’t have friends that talk the same topics that he likes, u should ask ur sis what does he talk to her about and if he already has friends that talks about that stuff then he probably likes ur sis. But truth is maybe it looks like he has friends but maybe he doesn’t so invite him to u guys house or to hangout to just make him feel welcomed, respected and happy.

I would always notice her but I would use my eyes and won’t actually move my head towards her. Don’t want to make it to obvious
