Why does he not like if someone compliments me?

A couple of weeks ago me and the guy I’m seeing was having a few drinks in the place that I work. My manager was telling him that I’m a really nice girl and lovely. After he walked away my boyfriend was saying things like ‘I know you’re lovely’ and ‘I don’t need him to tell me’. He went on about it a few times. He even mentioned it to my mum and said he doesn’t need someone to tell him how nice of a person I am and that he knows that himself. I found it odd that it seemed to piss him off someone else telling him that I’m a nice person. It’s like it made him annoyed

He probably really likes you and sees you are a nice person. It may have had something to do with the delivery.

Maybe your guy took it personal like your boss was assuming your guy is a jerk and needed to be told? Also, Dads tend to tell boys that their daughters are special. He might have felt the conversation was a bit condescending. All he could say was, "yes of course".

Your boss meant well, but I think your guy was in an awkward space since he already knows you are fabulous.

In this case I think he is just getting jealous on his own. Doesn't seem like you are doing anything on purpose to make him jealous.

No, and he knows that I can’t stand my boss. It’s happened before when someone else has told him I’m a nice girl he’s had the same reaction.
