Why does my guy friend hate it when I talk about another guy when he is dating?

The title says it all. I have a guy friend who’s close to me and he recently started dating casually with other girl (s). I noticed he would laugh and talk about his love life, but whenever I mention a guy and talk highly of another guy, my guy friend turns quiet and completely ignores me or seems kind of pissed.

I’m really confused because he freely talks about his dating life and i’m either giving advice or showing reactions, but if I talk about who i’m crushing on or another guy he turns cold. He doesn’t even give a reaction and changess the topic.

He has a crush on you and thinks that by dating his current girlfriend he can make you jealous and confirm for him that you have feelings.
Which reading between the lines here, I gather that you do not have feelings for him.
One other possibility, he's an insecure douchebag that ether wants to be a player or in control of everything.
Personally using someone as a backup to make another person jealous is a douche thing to do.

Yeah I don't know why that is but I have a female best friend and she's the same way to me
