Why do teen guys show off their armpit hair?

I've noticed a lot of younger guys - teens to 20+ - show off their armpit hair in front of girls? I've noticed my younger brother doing this quite a lot - either when he's shirtless or in a wife beater. A couple times he's been lying on his bed in just his boxers with his arms behind his head being flirtatous with my friends. Or on the sun lounger by the pool, or after his workout in the garage, he'll be talking to me shirtless with his arms behind his head - his abs, pecs and hairy armpits drenched in sweat. Why is this? Is it some sort of masculinity thing?

Because they only just got it and they still sort of can't believe that they aren't still 8 years old.

I don't know he seems to draw attention to his hairy pits, particulary when girls are around by flaunting and scratching them. He was even playing with his pit hair when talking to one my friends when he was just in a towel after a shower. It's kinda gross

Well, I guess this applies to me since I've done all these things. Except laying in bed in my boxers while a bunch of girls who were friends with my sibling were in the house. That's... yea... no...

I have been shirtless in shorts in front of girls before, or like my bathing suit.

I put my arms behind my head like that all the time. Yea, I guess I'm technically showing off my armpit hair while wearing a tank top or shirtless, but, that's not really the intention. I'm just comfortable sitting or laying like that. I don't care if people see my armpit hair, but I'm also not trying to make it noticeable. I think you may be overthinking this part...

Yea, I've talked with family and friends shirtless and sweating after a workout. I'm just comfortable in my body and don't mind people seeing me shirtless. I just don't see it as odd, because I workout at school like that and I talk to friends while I'm shirtless and working out, so its just normal to me.

I guess you could call it a masculinity thing, I'd just think guys tend to be more confident after a certain point. At least some of us, so we don't mind people seeing us shirtless.

Honestly, I was like that too...

Typically guys get armpit hair after they have become "sexually mature" so it is an outward sign that we have become "men." Pretty much the same with any guy getting body hair when they are young.

Also, I was on the football team and I was the first guy on our team to actually get armpit hair, so I "showed it off" mainly to prove I was physically more mature than the other guys.

To be honest, I always hated sleeveless shirts when I was a little kid. I would refuse to wear anything sleeveless, and going shirtless was completely out of the question. As soon as I started building muscle in my arms and growing armpit hair, I wore nothing but sleeveless shirts. I kept my arms up and put them behind my head like that all the time, I could casually flex my arms and show off. Then when I started getting chest hair, I spent 90% of the time shirtless. Hormones make you do shit...

In contrast, I ended up being a bodybuilder, and for years I've been completely clean-shaven. No armpit hair at all...

It's a phase where he is showing off his physical maturity, it will pass...
