so he was talking to his friend about how he finds this one girl really cute and that he was overwhelmed by her cuteness. he says he would date her if I wasn't his girlfriend. he didn't say this to me, the dating one but definitely said that the girl was cute.

It depends on his loyalty, we're all well in our right to find other people attractive, even think they would be a good dating option, maybe not for us but even others. As long as we don't act on it, I don't think there's an issue.

I just find it strange he would openly say he would date her if you weren't his girlfriend, that's murky waters because that potentially leads into the "grass is greener on the other side" mindset, which it may not be, and now you're being compared to an idea of someone.

This doesn't necessarily mean your relationship is over, I hope for your sake he's just dumb with words, but I think you need to talk with him about this.

In my pov, If the girl decides to take interest in him he would either cheat or leave you. I think you should ask him about it and let him know how you feel, because he was talking to his friends so maybe he was just acknowledgingthe fact that she is his type and he would date her. I don't know him personally so I can't really say. But it is an area of concern.
