What does it mean when a guy you’ve never talked to in your life calls you bubba?

This guy from my school who I have on snap just had his birthday and so I wished him a happy birthday and he replied with “I appreciate it bubba”. I’ve literally never talked to this guy before and I didn’t know he went to my school until like a week ago.
