Am I doing being oblivious?

Long story short, I am a high schooler, who just was allowed to start dating! One day, a guy friend of my girl friend asked for my insta while we were at her surprise birthday dinner after making small talk waiting for our food. I texted him after the dinner, he asked me for my number, and it was a nice convo too it didn’t feel very forced. Then the following day, he asked me if I wanted to go out and eat, he couldn’t dentist appointment, so on. So, I haven’t texted him since Monday and after those two days I started texting him, I was always the one to initiate a “convo” and he always responds with a one word text or a very dry text. My mom told me that if he was interested in me he would text me first, which hasn’t happened. When I first asked him why he asked for my insta, he said he thought I was cool and didn’t know any of my friends’ friends, but I have trouble believing that. I hope this makes sense, but am I being oblivious? I don't know if he really just wants to be friends or if he finds me annoying. (I vented to him about volleyball once and we played apex which im terrible at caused us to lose twice, which is why im scared he thinks im annoying) Also am I overthinking?

i also didn’t clarify i actually have no clue if he's rlly interested in me or not the only thing I have to back me up is that he asked me for my insta, number, and to go out 😅

also i dont have many guy friends so this whole thing might just b me overthinking everything
