Complimented my crush but he never complimented me back?

I am generally so embarrassed… me and him were talking it got to a point were we were talking about our relationships in the past than he told me a girl he is talking to keeps leaving him in delievered I then told him “really? Ur so cute and u have a good personality” and he said “FR?” And something happened after that but than I wrote him a sentence on how good his personality is and that he is cute than he mentioned a funny quote from a song and laughed it off… I played along but he never ever complimented me back I am literally honestly so embarrassed….. I’ve never been so embarrassed in my life? Does that mean he thinks I’m ugly or… he is just playing hard to get… I am so embarrassed? Please be brutually honest 😭

We just don't communicate the way women do. We don't receive compliments often so we don't think to give them.

"compliments" when it comes to male friendships (at least in my experience) are more of the unspoken kind. If a friend of mine comes to me for advice on a particular thing, I'll take that as a compliment, but won't feel a need to say anything about it. Guys also show love by insulting each other.

And then they (again speaking from experience) rarely receive genuine compliments from women, so we don't know how to act when we do get them. I usually talk and get along with girls just fine, but if they compliment me, my brain immediately stops working... I just don't know what I'm supposed to do, lol.

If I were to walk up to some guy I barely know and say "hey man, I remember you from school. You still sucking cock?" he'd probably beat me up. No need to worry about that with my friend. I can say whatever and know I won't get beat up because he loves me.

It's a beautiful thing that a lot of women will never understand.
