Why does my male friend constantly tell me that I need to have a boyfriend?

We have been friends for nearly three years. However, though we know each other in real life, we don't talk at all in public. He stares at me but can't ever initiate the conversation. I on the other hand, always have been to girls- only educational institutions and don't know how to talk to guys. So therefore, our friendship is more of a virtual kind and it's fine since I am an introvert. We don't talk regularly but when we do we talk a lot.

And all these years he has been constantly telling me that I need a boyfriend and should have one immediately. He provides me with endless reasons why I don't deserve to be single. Although he is single, he says that he would 'teach' me how to fall in love or be into a relationship.

Why does he repeatedly say that?

I don't really the answer. At first I used to think that he just meant what he said. But later I realised that no matter how many times I told him that I didn't need a boyfriend, he wasn't paying attention to that. Often the idea that he is perhaps interested in me strikes me but then again I think that I am very quick to judge and probably misinterpreting his innocent intentions. Besides, I don't have male friends other than him at all and therefore don't know how guys behave around friends belonging to the opposite sex.

I really want to know how others see it.
