I am working full time and remotely, and I would sometimes talk about work to this coworker who lived in a neighbouring country. Out of all coworkers, he asked me to meet up for coffee when he came to my country for a few days during summer last year before moving to another continent (already had that move arranged before I joined the company). After that, he moved to that another continent.
Since then, we became friends, and have started talking/texting outside of work, but have been texting every day since September. It happened once that we didn't talk for one day but he texted me before sleep to apologise and let me know he was busy and that he is going to sleep now because he is exhausted.
We also talk on the phone, and I was the first one he told he bought airplane tickets to come to the continent where I am (and also my country), and we will see each other again.
We have become parts of each other's lives very recently, and truthfully, I don't text my very close friends every day, let alone new people - I just followed on his initiative to meet and connect on social media/exchange numbers. He said he is very shy with girls, as am I with the guys, and I said I prefer being friends with guys first.
