Why does my boyfriend talk about other girls?

Sometimes my boyfriend talks about other girls either his exs or just girls in general like this girl at the store that comes over and talks to him, he just randomly brings up stupid shit, should I just shut him down when he does that and say I don't care and I'll never care, but why does he do that is he trying to get a reaction out of me. Also a side not the first time he did it I flipped out bc I was so insecure about myself and I now came to realize that I'm not and I figured my insecurities out.

Bc I find it rude to mention another woman or ex infront of your girlfriend or wife that's like talking nonstop about a man or boy infront of them and telling them about what they do and where they are in life like to be honest it's telling you that your life with them isn't entertaining enough to pay attention to ur own realationship
