Why does he do that?

I have an online friend and he's ignoring me.

I don't know why he does these, he said he is spending more time with his family this days and that's why he doesn't reply. I can understand if he is not responding a day or two, but it's been like 5 days and it's always like that. He always replies after 3-6 days and when I try to ignore his messages, I can't.

But the thing is he's such a nice guy and he replies with excitement. I feel so dumb.

by the way, I can see he's online but he doesn't even read the messages

Mentally and Emotionally you are submerged in a LDR. He is not and is communicating as much purposefully in his delayed responses, therefore, he is indeed a nice guy. He could just block or ghost but he does not.

He is excited because he does not see you but once or twice a week. Everyday would be commitment and he is not committing to you in this way. Realign your thinking and feeling with reality or continue to feel dumb... as you know a dead end when you are sitting at it.
