Tonight I was talking with a couple of coworkers. I told them I was interested in pursuing reporting after I graduated high school. I told them my dad wanted me to do sports reporting and I said I didn’t know about sports but he said that didn’t matter because I was pretty. I agreed and said the women sports reporters are gorgeous while the men aren’t. They pretty much agreed and my guy coworker was saying how they just tell me what to say and I say it. Then he said how one woman had her own sports show.
Later he told me I have to start watching sports movies like the sandlot and some more movies and I told him I don’t want to lol but I kind of took it offensively because he agreed earlier that I wouldn’t have to know about sports.
My other girl coworker then said she couldn’t see me in sports but on the news and I would be the first face she sees on there.
Then my coworker said he could see me podcasting which is not rlly on camera and I took that offensively because I feel like he’s basically saying I shouldn’t be on camera lol. I then told him I wanted to be in camera and everyone told me that I should be a reporter and he was like “podcasts can still be on camera”. I don't know I just associate podcasts with radio.
He then said he could see me wearing the same outfit as the Morton’s salt girl on the package which was so random lol.
Was he basically saying I shouldn’t be on tv? Was he being rude?

Based on what you've described, it's difficult to say for certain why your coworker was being rude. However, some of his comments do seem dismissive and condescending, which could be seen as rude or disrespectful.
For example, when he said that you would just be told what to say and you would say it, he was essentially belittling the work of reporters and suggesting that it doesn't require any real skill or knowledge. Similarly, when he suggested that you watch sports movies to learn about sports, he seemed to be implying that you needed to educate yourself because you didn't know enough.
Additionally, his comments about podcasting and the Morton's salt girl could be seen as dismissive or even insulting, depending on how you interpreted them.
Overall, it's possible that your coworker was being rude or disrespectful, but it's also possible that he didn't intend to be and was just expressing his own opinions. If you feel comfortable doing so, you could try talking to him about how his comments made you feel and see if you can come to a better understanding. Alternatively, you could talk to a manager or HR representative if you feel that his behavior was inappropriate or made you uncomfortable.
Dude, this was not a serious conversation to me. Ever been a part of one?
No, he wasn't, and you are being ridiculous. Why would it offend you to be advised that sports knowledge would be a plus in that career?
Because he agreed with me at first by saying women sports reporters didn’t really have to know much because they’re just gorgeous but then later told me I should watch sports movies
Okay? I still don't get it. From the outside it looks like this was not some serious debate or discussion... just kind of having fun with it.
Fact: women sports reporters do have to know their content (ie sports) Look up Erin Andrews. Does she seem like she doesn't know sports?
I think you were taking yourself way too seriously.
He was being polite. He was saying you were pretty and have a nice voice.
