Guy friend said I was "trying to be cute"?

So I wore makeup for the first time in a REALLY long time, like almost a year. And I wore it just because I was taking pictures that day. My guy friend didn't know about the pictures and immediately said "oh you're trying to like cute for some boy!".

This is the same guy friend that I wasn't sure if he liked me because he's my ex's best friend. But even my ex has said before he thinks the guy friend my like me.
