I was out with a guy and he straight up told me he loves it and it turns him on if a woman is vulnerable & submissive. He likes caring for his woman and the idea of protecting her gets him. So i was wondering what would the psychology of this be, like why is that attractive to him? Does he want to feel needed?

Well, simple it makes a man feel more masculine. No man will ever appreciate it if the woman is constantly on loggerheads with the man and is challenging him always. No man wants to be tested and compared with other men.

A man is likely to be more secured if the woman is sweet, vulnerable and submissive because this kind of assures them that such a woman is not likely to play mind games and will not try to test them using other guys etc.

The man is likely to be assured that he can take the decisions and take charge and knows the woman will trust him and follow his lead.

Another reason is if the woman is vulnerable ands submissive then it makes the man believe that it won't much effort to make the woman happy, like it is very easy to make such women happy.

There's no psychology other than the basic evolutionary psychology of masculinity. Men are hard-wired to care for women who submit to them. Men do not like strong, independent boss bitch types for anything other than sex. He is just being a man.

It's difficult to say this with 100% certainty, but I would like to say that it can be different reasons depending on the men in question.

But I think your guess is not wrong, he probably feels needed by taking care and trying to protect you. And he enjoys that he's able to do something for you to make you happy.
It can also be that he enjoys the feeling of control, and that he is in charge of making you happier.
