Why did he get angry because he thinks I rejected him, any ideas?

I’m curious and would like opinions- I have been friends with a guy after meeting at college for about 5 years. Wed talk on and off but then he got engaged and I had feelings for him so I had to unfriend him.
He then sent me a message all annoyed and then later apologised….. I don’t get why he got so angry BUT he knew how I felt but he claimed he didn’t feel the same at the time…did he feel like I rejected him?

I remember the time we talked before this I mentioned my ex to him and he said something like ‘well he wasn’t the guy for you’…it’s almost as if he felt something for me but didn’t admit it.

What do you think, any opinions?

I don’t say this rudely, but how you handled this was pretty avoidant and cold. Don’t get me wrong, I understand why you did it and totally agree with distancing yourself from someone if your feelings are reciprocated. But this is supposed to be a friend of 5 years, the least you could’ve done was say goodbye. From his perspective, what you did was show that on your end, the friendship became contingent so long as he was single, and since he’s not, you’re completely disinterested in being friends. So again, I understand your views but I’m just explaining how he may interpret your behavior as messed up. It’s not him having regrets romantically, he’s engaged after all. Just the idea of suddenly losing a friend.
