How do I know if a guy is hitting on me or if his words are just normal friendly and he’s being kind and social?

i had a few scenarios in the past 2 weeks where i was confused if men are hitting on me because they want to know me more or they’re just being friendly. i was at a book store minding my own business and a guy came up to me asking me for my social media telling me im good looking… i told him i don’t have an open instagram etc and then he’s like oh ok “i just wanted it since im working on the music feild and thought it can come in handy” which left me questioning was he trying to hit on me and ask me my ig becuz he saw me as a potential friend? or truthfully wanted my account for his work…. or a differnt guy asked me the other day if he can get me a drink when i was at a restaurant myself after my friend had left and was just waiting for a cab. then this morning i was in a coffee shop and a guy came over to me and just told me im pretty and he told me he wants me to know that, just got me thinking are these all signs of people hitting on me? or are these just friendly gestures?

If you’re asking, they probably are. Girls tend to be insecure. Guys too. But when we muster the courage to talk to girls when we don’t have to, we probably like them, or at least are interested in getting to know them better. That could be friendly, but if we’re not in a relationship we’re also trying to figure out if you’re interested in us so we don’t embarrass ourselves trying to spend time with you.

hitting means he wants me to date/hook up etc and talking is just being polite and kind
