i think some of the songs are so cheesy that they are cringe worthy and I highly doubt that he feels like that about any woman let alone a girl he has spoken to once. Why would he make such a playlist for me? Do men really think we are that dumb?

How do you mean that? Tortured by what?
It could be tortured by a bad breakup, a rejection, the death of somebody close, or even just a life full of disappointment. It makes guys gravitate towards that kind of stuff.
He does have a tortured soul for sure. But why would he make this playlist for me if he rejected me years ago?
You have to ask him. People reject others for many reasons. Sometimes it boils down to timing. h
