What does a guy mean when he asks: ‘what are we doing’ when you’ve been hooking up but keeping it on the down low?

i’ve been (secretly) hooking up with a guy, and he’s asked a few times now ‘what are we doing?’ when we start 😙😙. We’ve been keeping it on the down low because we’re part of the same friend group, plus one of our close mutual friends was interested in me, which I quickly and nicely let him down.

The guy i’m seeing has asked me this question a few times now and I’m not sure what answer he’s wanting or what he’s really asking.

I should’ve made it more clear… that question was never in reference to what we were going to do when hooking up. it was more like ‘what are are we doing hooking up’ Like if the roles were reversed and a girl you had been seeing asked ‘what are we’, it was always asked like that. But i’ve never met a man who wanted something more then what i currently gave him, hence why the question is confusing
