This is something all guys have to learn. It doesn't come naturally to most. But the REALITY is a guy can put in work with a woman for a long time and never know if he's getting anywhere. This is why guys learn to cultivate many options with many women. Because a guy knows he's typically got to flirt with 10 to get the interest of 1. It's just the way things are. Women are more picky in the early going with men. So a smart guy knows NEVER to get too attached to ANY women until she shows him definite signs she's interested. And since most women want to do everything BUT that for fear of giving away too much of her "Art" (of war). A guy typically assumes she only likes the attention most the time.
As with anything in the "game", "dance", or whatever you want to call it. After being played with by the opposite gender some guys develop an ambivalence to the affect it CAN have on some women who aren't playing. But since so many of the female persuasion does, they just become unfortunate casualties. The REALITY is most women get dealt what they deserve from this overall. I would say sorry, but I'm just answering your question. Nature is the way it is. People are the way they are. You either have to accept this REALITY, don't play this game (dating), or accept that you're going to hear some things you probably don't want to on G@G.
That's why I always encourage women to keep me sexually frustrated, and never let me have intercourse with them, so I'll never take them for granted.
