Why will a guy admit he lives a lonely life? For context, I've been frequently traveling to his city. He has been convincing me to stay in his city and I declined. Then he said he was done convincing me. After, we talked about problems then he admitted he lives a lonely life. So much that he sometimes contemplated suicide. I said what about his room mate? He said they dont talk much. Why would he admit this to me? He is a self admitted loner but i get that there are times he'd rather not be.

Well , its a difficult situation isn't it? He felt strong enough to tell you the truth , yet you have found this off putting ( quite understandably ) but its kinda catch 22 for him , he wants you to stay there , he has a bond of sorts with you..
My ex girlfriend , much younger than me admitted ( after we were together ) that she had attempted suicide and was on anti depressants , her hands in the morning would sake like a drunk with DTs , it really freaked me out also , but I obviously couldn't just say " you'd better leave " , she'd always say " dont leave me.. dont ever leave me " , then out of the blue she left , which I was not unhappy about , and she has since married this guy , he has no idea what he has signed up for.
Its similar , he wants company , but maybe not full time company.
Well if he is suicidal then you should stay away from him.
