Why did this guy admit he is lonely?

He is a guy friend and he told me this which made me feel sad and pity for him. For context, i visited him again in his city and we had a great time, a blast where we keep on laughing.

Whenever we see each other, he never fails to tell me he loves me, he always makes me feel important and buys me food.

In return, i also gravitate to him and message him when im in his city. We both are not that close to some of our siblings so we are acting like we are siblings but when he said there are times when he was lonely and contemplated suicide, my heart felt i had to stay in his city.

He has been convincing me to stay in his city but also said he gives up in convincing me but at the same time mentioned this on the last part before we parted ways. My question is why did he say this and admit to me?

It's dangerous to get too close to someone who more or less says your the only reason they are still living.

From his behavior, I would think that he pretends to be lonely because he is the introvert type that has a hard time finding and making friends with others.

He could also have been rejected multiple times and that would have led him to become more of a solitary person. Finally, the fact that he has little contact with his family or siblings also leads me to believe that he may have an issue with bonding with other people.

He has found someone in you that is a little like him and that is more of an introvert. Perhaps he sees a sister in you, a person that he can behave more naturally than with anyone else. If he did want to commit suicide, then he has a deep traumatic issue that really needs to be looked after because what will happen to him after he leaves you or you leave him? On the other hand, he could simply have said that he wanted to commit suicide to be more dramatic and for you to have pity on him.
