Why is my guy friend needing emotional intimacy from me?

He keeps asking how i am and wants updates from my life weekly and i find it excessive tbh because none of my other friends do this. We had a thing in the past where he rejected me and i confessed my feelings to him before but that was last year. This year, it's as if he's wanting that emotional intimacy frequently which i dont like to give so i sometimes avoid him. Why is he being like this?
