Hi, I’m 15 years old and I have this friend that I’ve known for around 5 years. For some background information, I was bullied in middle school and during that time he was both bandwagoning with my bullies and genuinely had a crush on me at the same time (years ago)
Our relationship still stays the same except I cut off the bullies and now I’m the one that likes him. I always thought he was joking but He constantly insults me harshly and at the same time he tutors me for math, recommends me songs and stays up late for me. Recently I got mad at him because he tried defending his actions in public, saying there’s a “reason” for his actions, knowing full well there isn’t, I confronted him and he told me about how he never wanted to be friends in the first place and how he did it “to feel better about himself” and explained how our friendship is meaningless, after that I blocked him.
We both still talk in a server that we’re mutually in and every now and then he tries talking to me, still insulting but an attempt at communication, it’s been 2 weeks since we ended things off and he’s asked me to unblock him 3 times, and all three times when I asked him why, he just said “keep me unblocked, there’s no reason to block me” for reference, I’ve told him to stop talking to me countless times already.
What do you think his intentions are? Is he trying to be friends or is he trying to be the dominant one in ending the friendship? What is his motivation?

Yeesh, this dude sounds like a real piece of work. Who treats someone they claim to be "friends" with like that?
From what you've described, it doesn't seem like he actually cares about being friends with you at all. More like he just wants the attention and power trip of having you around to insult and put down. Classic bullying behavior if you ask me.
The fact that he defended himself saying "there's a reason" for it but won't say what? Total BS excuse. And now saying your friendship means nothing is just hurtful. Seems pretty clear he's just trying to mess with your head and ego.
I'd say keep him blocked, sis. You don't need that kind of toxic nonsense in your life. Anyone who genuinely cares about you wouldn't constantly be insulting you, you know?
He's probably just annoyed that he lost his favorite target to take shots at. But that's his problem! Don't give him the satisfaction of unblocking just cause he's throwing a tantrum. Stay strong - you've got so much better things ahead of you than wasting time on dudes like that!
girl, in that young age guys mostly are very stupid and many would do or say the most dumb stuff only to "fit in", to look strong/strong or to seem "cool" in front of their peers. Also if you see like shifting in behaviour, that means he is insecure and doesn't know yet which way he should go and is trying out
