Am I being dramatic?

Im dating this guy that makes music. He is not famous or anything but has a couple of songs and its trying to make a living out of it. The thing is, there is this one song that he told me he wrote to his ex a couple of years ago. He says it doesn’t mean anything to him, that its just art, and its one of his most famous songs. The thing is he just made a post today about that song (valentines day) and wrote something like “have you dedicated a song to that special person today?”. It made me feel really bad since he wrote that song to his ex, but im not sure if im being dramatic. It just felt unnecessary to post it today, since I already know its about his ex. In a way it just makes me think that he posts the song or mentions the song in new songs just so the ex knows he is still thinking about her.

Eric Clapton's most famous song is "Layla" was written in 1970 about his relationship with George Harrison's then wife Pattie Boyd. She divorced George, married Eric, then eventually divorced Eric. This all happened DECADES ago. Eric is quoted as saying he has resigned himself to the fact that he would have to sing this song every time he performs.

Artists write what's happening in their lives. What's happening changes, but the art remains.

I don’t think it’s necessarily in reference to her. I mean I get he wrote it for her, but that’s in the past now. I think what he’s trying to do is promote his music, especially if it’s a love song. I mean it is Valentine’s Day. In the past when I’d take a girl to a particular restaurant, then they’d find out I took an ex there, they used to think I was reminiscing. That I missed my ex, etc. When in reality, the restaurant just had really good food. This is one of those times. If it’s one of his best hits than why not promote it? Especially if he’s trying to make a living off of it. A lot of famous musicians have songs about their exes.

If he’s aspiring to be an artist, there’s a ton of things you are going to need to deal with that probably will break your own boundaries. That’s up to you to decide if that situation is for you, but I’m going to tell you right now, he’s definitely not putting you over his success.

It isn't about her. It is about the popularity. Chasing success.
Yes, that still necessarily means he isn't showing you sufficient consideration, but if you're worrying that he is still thinking of his ex, I guarantee he isn't. He is just trying to exploit it because it works.
