@Billlewis. I am actually 54 not 44. In the 1990's I was a police officer for about six years in a shit hole city up north. One hot summer day we had a pursuit which reached well over 100+ MPH. As we left the city for the highway the suspect either blew a front tire or hit a big pothole (or both), but he lost control of his vehicle, hit a K-Rail, bounced off it and hit a large embankment, which sent him airborne. His car landed on the roof, snapping his neck and almost decapitating him. After the dust settled we approached the vehicle, weapons drawn, until we saw his inverted body draining blood onto the pavement. A fucked up scene for sure.

I went back to my car to cook off (mentally and physically ), and the song "Simple Man" was playing on the radio. Since that day I have always associated this song with that event, but I still love the song.

I never gave the event much thought until recently (25 years later). I find myself wondering if that man (the suspect ) had found the love of a GOOD woman, would he have been living so fast and seeking the rich man's gold? Would he have run from us? Was dying better than being arrested? Did he really have nothing to live for?

Today, finding the love of a "good woman" is unrealistic for the vast majority of men. I think this is a big reason so many men are just dropping out of almost everything. Unfortunately, the most dangerous and destructive force in society is a man with nothing to lose. Today we have legions of men with nothing to lose.

@Billlewis. The more dangerous experiences I have had the less of a badass I feel like. There is always someone bigger, tougher, faster, smarter than you. In my now older self I think being a "badass" is Knowing your own limitations, asking for help when needed, being willing to die/kill for those you love, and being willing to follow your own (quiet) path.

I am curious what @Exterminatore thinks about all this.

I think he has a few things in common with you, Sir. You're both very convincing examples of the male species, and neither of you are interested in bowing to anyone, anywhere. I've been fortunate enough to have chatted with him recently, and I can tell you that he's just formidable. Perhaps not as well versed as you are, but much more intimidating.

Thank you. Probably not always 100%, but I think I do for the most part. I have a good job and career, I own a house (thankfully I bought one before the shit hit the fan), I'm hapilly married to my high school sweetheart, and we have two beautiful daughters. I think I have most of the bases covered.

@exitseven. Well that's the point. Many of us are complicated, but that usually entangles us if we aren't meeting our own previously set goals and self expectations. At some point, acceptance of a simpler life can help bring peace.
