Why would a friend that calls you everyday and text you talk bad about you to another person?

A male friend of mine calls me everyday, text me during the day but I recently found out he said negative things about me to another person he thought he could trust, He was making it seem like I was the one texting and calling him and making it seem as if he was doing me a favor being my friend. Yes you are correct but what kind of points? He was trying to make me look like the needy clingy type that needs him when it’s the other way around. He’s not interested in her she’s married and an older lady.
