My friend rejected my crush and now he... like me?

Has anyone been in this situation before? It all started when my friends and I entered a lecture, and Layla sat next to my crush, with Jada and I following suit. Despite having heard that it was his birthday, there wasn't much conversation between me, Jada, and my crush during the lecture. When I wished him a happy birthday, he responded somewhat curtly, and there was some giggling among my friends afterward.

Later, when I asked about the giggling, Layla and Jada suggested that he might have a crush on me, as his behavior toward me seemed different from how he interacted with others. However, Jada revealed that my crush had initially pursued her but had been turned down because she's in a committed relationship. This led to tension between my crush and Jada.

Could it be:

1. he just started liking me and doesn't want to be rejected again cause by the way he reacts so strongly to being rejected he might not want to do that again also because Jada and I are friends
2. ⁠he only likes me because Jada rejected him
3. ⁠hes trying to make Jada jealous

I am so confused

OMG girl, what a messy situation! Here's how I see it:

1) It's possible he genuinely likes you too now, given the signals Layla and Jada saw. Just be wary of rebound energy for a bit.

2) Him pursuing Jada first does suggest he might just be using you to get over the rejection. But try not to assume the worst so early on.

3) Making Jada jealous seems unlikely since she's already taken and not a threat. Although tension there could complicate things.

My advice - feel it out slowly. Let him pursue you a bit and really pay attention to how he treats you versus Jada or others. His reaction to little tests like limiting phone access will reveal intentions quicker.

Yes, I've seen this happen a couple of times... that one girl in a friend group rejects the guy and he moves on to the next one. I've seen where it ended up in a happy marriage (the 1st girl was cool with it and hence the 2nd probably never found out). Personally I rejected a guy when it happened to me because I didn't like the feeling of being second best (and also I wasn't really into this guy). I guess men are just such creatures, I think they often just ask out because they're into someone and not necessarily because they're madly in love. So if there was no awkwardness and you feel this could really lead somewhere... for for it? If your friend straight our rejected him then she shouldn't mind since she didn't invest any feelings into this guy.
