When you tell a man that you fell for him and then he tells you that because of what he is going through at the moment that he doesn't want to open up about feelings. What exactly does this mean? If he didn't fall for me back why doesn't he want to open up about feelings?

He is probably going through something he needs to work on and doesn't think he should be dating right now. It doesn't mean he isn't interested but he most likely has something to work through. He either doesn't want to drag you into it or he doesn't want to risk getting too close before he does. I'm in a similar boat with myself i have to work through something and if by small chance a girl wanted to date right now I would turn her down at the moment. It's not that I don't want to its I want to work on myself and my issue before involving someone else.
