Remove accessories such as watches, rings, earrings and necklaces which can restrict the free-flowing feel of the massage strokes.

Sssshhh!

Determine how much talking is appropriate for your session. Too much talking can be distracting and unnecessary. Please answer any questions the therapist may ask. Also, feel free to give feedback if any technique is uncomfortable or if you would like something done longer or differently. If you wish to talk, you may do so, but remember that good massage requires concentration on the part of the therapist.

Nighty night!

Close your eyes:
Close your eyes: "see" the massage with your sense of touch.

Feel your body both inside and out. Close your eyes to allow you to focus on the touch, scents and sounds of the massage experience. You usually get over 80% of your sensory information from your eyes. Closing them allows you to get a sense of the changes brought about by the massage in the tense areas of your body more easily.

Turn off the inner dialog within your mind. Allow the tensions and thoughts of the day to drift off into space.

Don't just do something: lie there!

Just lie there! This is your time not to give to others, but to receive!

Allow the therapist to move your limbs into whatever position is required. Be like a rag doll. Resist the natural urge to be helpful: simply receive. The therapist is a trained professional who knows what he or she is doing. Follow his or her suggestions with confidence.

Oceans of Emotions!

If emotions surface, do not be afraid to give them expression.

The body can store up emotions in the musculature. Sometimes during a massage, these emotions will surface and it is of great benefit if the thoughts and feelings can be acknowledged. At the very least, don’t be afraid to sigh while accepting the soothing strokes.

Relax to the Max!

The recipient’s only job is to relax and let go as completely as possible.

For those who find this hard to do, here are a couple of hints: Breathe deeply and slowly, stressing the exhalation; allow the body and its parts to become very heavy and sink into the table; as the therapist’s hands locate areas of tension, consciously try to let go and relax these areas.
