Coronavirus: How to make the best of self-isolation

Coronavirus: How to make the best of self-isolation

So today, lots of UK universities announced that they are cancelling all teaching for some time to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. My University has gone as far as to cancel everything for the rest of the academic year. So I am to have to self isolate and do online learning for a while. I understand that this is angering and distressing for many people, but seriously this is a crisis and it's important that we all do our part to help prevent the spread of the virus to the most vulnerable people in society.

Here are the best ways to spend self-isolation and social distancing (In my opinion):

Binge a TV series or two

So what's that tv series that you've been meaning to watch or catch up on then? Anyway, you will now have more time to do that now in your life. So that's just a win, right? Disney plus as well arrives in the UK on March 24th, so that's me sorted.

Learn a new skill

This can be anything you can learn from home, useful, pointless or just plain random. If it's something you're passionate about then it's definitely going to make you happier.

Do yoga and meditation

Exercise is still important in this situation and yoga and mediation are probably the best exercises we can do without needing to leave the house as they have massive benefits on both our mental and physical health. There are also plenty of free resources on Youtube to learn these if you are a beginner.

Read

It doesn’t matter what you read whether it’s educational, fictional etc. It’s important we read whether it’s to learn or just for enjoyment. It just helps us escape reality.

Here are some positives from Coronovirus

You can get the experience of the work from home and self-employed life:

If you have an office job and will now have to work from home then it can be an experience of the freedom of self-employment. Who doesn’t want to have the experience of working in their pyjamas?

You get more lie-ins

We defiantly live in a world where we can easily become sleep deprived through the long work commutes and just the long 9 - 5s in general. So definitely this will definitely be a positive in all this. Who doesn’t love a good lie-in?

You still get to talk to friends and loved ones on social media:

Your relationships aren't going to go away in all of this. Just keep in touch via Facetime, phone and other means.

Some things to remember in all this:

Just remember that this is all for a good cause:

Like I said at the start, this is to help prevent the spread of the virus to the most vulnerable people in society who are most at risk. E.g Elderly people and people with long term
health conditions. For the rest of us, the majority of cases will be mild. All it costs is us putting our lives on hold for a bit.

Try not to look at the news and social media on this crisis too much:

It’s defiantly human nature to want continuous updates in a situation like this. But looking at the news and social media can cause more panic than required. Just remember to do your own research and check the world health organisation.

You are not alone in this:

No matter how depressed and miserable you feel right now. Just remember that you are not the only one in this position and that things will get better.

Finally, this will be a miserable time for many people and if you are in need of more help then here some useful pages:
