You will lose weight even if you don't exercise if you consume less calories than you burn. E.g. 500 calorie deficit each day leads to 3500/week and -1 pound :) However, if you do cardio, you will not only burn calories but continue to do so after working out.
If you are going to the gym, try out the rowing machine (massive calories burnt and you develop muscle, and the more muscle you have the more calories you burn), elliptical trainer :)
Refrain from doing crunches and situps... they're pointless and your abs orgasm without burning much calories lol that's what happens to me. Try cardio kickboxing or boxing, as they burn massive calories! Try do cardio with light weights, skipping rope, staircase running... try be creative! Dancing is great too!! :)
Watermelon is healthy! :) Start off by finding what you like to eat, and finding substitutes for each of them to begin. For some reason I now love eating salad with my meal because it's so refreshing... but I started off just having lettuce wraps with chicken or something inside and gradually increased my intake of healthy veges.
If you like ice cream, substitute that for yoghurt. Even start by having low sugar frozen yoghurt if you have to. Substitute juice/sodas with homemade juice- 2 carrots, 3 stalks of celery :) Or a smoothie- milk, strawberries, blueberries, banana- whatever you can think of!
If you don't like fruit, try to start by eating apple wedges with 70% dark chocolate... you won't ever regret it :) Swap muffins with a wrap/piece of toast with peanut butter and honey.. once you get used to the change you won't go back! I don't eat ice cream/lollies/white carbs anymore and I love it :)
Good luck!!

Starving yourself is easiest if you keep all your bodies and dietary energy levels constantly low, that is you want to eat stuff with the lowest glycemic index and do as little exercise as possible. Look up like buddhist monks starvation methods, or fasting practices or whatever they call it, that is probably the most effective way to do it.
Exercise is one of the worst things you can do during periods of weight-loss, because it not only exhausts your body of energy quickly it also tells it to regenerate/build muscles and tissue. Both things require energy, proteins and nutrients from food and it causes you to get cravings that are probably beyond the amounts you acutally would need.
