+1 yGood question! I'd be running like crazy instead of dying like a sheep. Crazed gunmen are usually only good at hitting targets that are cowering and remaining still.
On a side note, did you know that in the thirties, forties, and fifties, children as young as fifteen brought their hunting rifles (Usually squirrel guns like a.22) to class and nobody ever said anything? There were no school shooting, no fears. Never...
They banned guns on campuses all across the nation aaaaaaaaaaand now we have school shootings and metal detectors? What? What changed...

+1 yif i run there's no guarantee i wouldn't be heading in their direction... or if law enforcement was on the scene... i could be mistaken for one of them or taken hostage... neither of which would turn out well for me.
... or if it was actually a hoax... but i was seen running around... i'd be arrested, them thinking i was the perpetrator (and having no one else to apprehend)
besides, if i stay put and hide behind the others, and the gunmen open fire... it's likely i'll be protected--the crowd would be a human shield... and i'd play dead amongst the bodies while the dust settled. :)15 Reply- +1 y
i'm glad i'm not in Texas... it'd be a lot more complicated as I'd have to worry about teachers and students having guns too, lol
... i'd be caught in the middle of a war! :) - +1 y
oh yeah!
in lot of countries Americans have a reputation as having a "shoot first, ask questions later", cowboy attitude... that's pretty much all Texas right there, lol - +1 y
not that i'd ever criticize a Texan to their face... i'd end up in a hospital! :D
+1 yLmao at opinion b. But I would play dead, when there are killings in schools usually the person shooting are targeting everyone they cam before they get caught they aren't really checking everyone in the floor to see if they are hurt or dead unless they have a list of people they want dead then I hope I'm not in that list. I remember in a elementary school shooting one kid stayed on the ground and acted dead and he was survived.

+1 yi can't answer the question by clicking either of your suggestions. i would try to help who i could and should he come to me i would try my best to fight and if i should die then may death be a welcome friend. I have stared down the barrel of many guns pointed at me and have never ran nor hid from them. i have in every occasion dealt with the situation the way it needs to be dealt with sometimes staring down the man with the gun and an attitude issue because he doesn't like being told to shut up, other times talking a friend out of suicide to only have the gun pointed at me and have him give up the gun, and in the last time have taken the gun from my would be mugger and held him down until he calmed himself so we could talk. we are now friends and he has a full time job. It is not in me to run or hide and those who know me would say that i am in the words of my oldest friend " the most strong wiled stupid person he has ever met.".

really cause i don't.
+1 yIf possible, escape, getting as many other people out as possible.
If there is no safe way out, shelter in place with a plan to confront the shooter if he becomes an immediate threat. Almost anything can be made into a close quarters weapon, and being able to ambush the shooter gives you an advantage. Ideally if there were a group of us, it would be get the 3 or 4 biggest guys to jump the guy if he came in the room and do whatever it takes to get the gun away and hold him there or kill him.13 Reply- +1 y
Just because the chance of ever being in the situation is exceedingly small doesn't mean thinking through it is a bad idea. Usually any time I see some sort of situation like that on the news or in a movie, I think a little about what I would do, and while I'm definitely no action movie star, that doesn't mean I wouldn't put up a fight if it came down to it. Getting out though remains by far the best option if you're able

But to answer your actual question, I'd probably stay, so I could keep the rest if the civilians calm. ^.~12 Reply- +1 y
The most optimal solution is to stay and try to keep civilians from panicking..
The other part of my answer is because
I'm so overconfident it could borderline as stupidity, even if I somehow manage to take out the gunmen it'd likely end with a few dead civilians. I believe this is also the reason the professionals encourage civilians to not play hero. ^.~
+1 yGenerally people have less than 20% accuracy when shooting at a running target and it's less than 2% likely if they do shoot you it'll be fatal. So my plan would be scream and run.
22 Reply- +1 y
Them odds ain't bad.
I wouldn't run, but I would calmly but quickly move myself away from the gun fire towards a secluded area. Or I wouldn't move at all and wait till the gun person showed up just to see what they'll go if they found some guy just not give a shit about what they're doing.

+1 yI'd be going out a window or something. If escape was impossible I'd hide around the corner of the door and try to ambush said gunman if he entered the room.

+1 yHide...
If you try to escape odds are they're shooting at you FIRST.14 Reply- +1 y
Doubt it...
But this has never happened to me... so I wouldn't know for sure.
But, judging from the news, it happens a lot in America. - +1 y
you can't judge anything from the news... they handpick the most shocking stories, from hundreds, and make them seem like it happens frequently :)
- +1 y
I know but still happens mostly in America...
Must be a reason for it.
{people have an extremely easy access to guns - not safe, i. e. idiotic}
+1 yid hide away from everyone else until the police come

23 Reply2.7K opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. If it was college I'd be carrying myself and I'd probably shoot him. Other wise I'd buy my time and if I saw an opportunity I'd take him out myself I also would never sacrifice someone else to ensure my own survival. I also wouldn't escape as that might provoke the gunman to kill someone as a example to others.

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yIt's childish how you don't take school shootings seriously. My school was locked down in elementary school when someone brought a gun to class. Use your brain. If you are running and someone has a gun pointed toward you, do you really think you will make it out alive if they are determined to shoot you? People like you make it easier for gun men. Though they may see that you are so dense that they would take pity on you and let you leave
00 ReplyI say run for the hills. You'll most likely be shot and then we won't have to deal with this thread anymore.
And this person you intend to use as a human shield? Make sure that's your 'crush'.02 Reply

There should be a batcave in every school so batman can evacuate students while disarming the bad guys.
