But losing weight is extremely simple. Exercise at least three times a week for an hour and eat balanced meals. A proper plate should consist of 1/2 veggies or fruit, 1/4 complex carb (such as brown rice, quinoa or wheat bread, etc), and your protein should be the size of your palm. For exercise I think weight lifting is most effective (don't worry about getting bulky, women lack the necessary hormones to get muscles like men), I think it's more effective because it burns calories long, and build lean muscle which burns calories by just existing. If you want bigger muscles (example, larger butt or arms) then do heavy weighted exercises with low reps (low weight high rep) and if you want smaller leaner muscle do low weights high rep (this basically toned preexisting muscle. And add about 20mins of cardio of your choice. This is what I find most affective but great at home workouts like blogilates or tone it up on YouTube are great and free.
Staying motivated us hard, but I suggest making a vision board. It sound stupid but it works (mine has a picture if my setting or before body and next to it are a bunch of pictures of my dream body) seeing how far I had come or was going really set the tone of my day and reminded me what I was working for. I also keep one picture of my dream body on the fridge so that it reminds me to make smart choices about what I'm eating

Run! I always run about 6 miles a day and 8 on long runs. If you want to burn fat then walk around. Once you burn fat you can try and gain muscle by exercising. A bikini body is more than just skin and bones. Its also muscle and tone!
If your sole purpose is to lose weight, the easiest method of doing so would be to be in a caloric deficit. aka eat less. Track what you're eating, weigh your food and track your calories. Adding cardio is a good, but its the more difficult method of losing weight.
The hardest part would be consistency, consistency, consistency... keep it up for at least 6 months.
This website will tell you how much you need to maintain your current weight.

note that 3500 calories equals to one pound of bodyweight. So if you were to lose 5 pounds per week you would have to cut 5*3500 = 17500 calories over the course of the week or (17500/7)= 2500 per day which is next to impossible but at least it'll give you an idea of what you need to do.
To track you caloric intake buy a weight scale, it shouldn't cost more than $30 then download the myfitness app on your phone, every time you eat or drink make you keep track of it. I know it sucks, trust me i hate it too, but it's well worth the effort when your start to see results. I've been doing this since April, and it works.
You will need to adjust your diet or exercise their is no shortcut to success dear. Start doing planks or cardio and it will firm up your legs and burn the fat off. www.bodybuilding.com has videos if you don't know how to stretch or preform the exercise. If you want to fit in a grad dress or something do a cleanse it can help you lose some weight but as far as I know it is temporary. You could also go on www.iifym.com it tells you how much protein, fats, carb. fiber you need everyday. I know what i'm talking about I was 210 pounds last January and now I am 170 pounds. I am going to be a sexy beast by summer and that's a guarantee.

Dieting. I'm a food chemist by trade but without knowing your current diet an medical history I can't do much. Use a calculator online to find out your basal metabolic rate, and the number of calories you need to consume to lose weight safely.
Your basal metabolic rate is pretty important, you don't want to go below this as it will kick in hormones meant to increase "calorie retention" in layman terms. There's not secret to weight loss. Eat less exercise more, I lost 60 pounds in a year just by eating less no working out and then in like 6 months I got abs from working out so that's how you lose weight and do squats if you want to tone out your legs, for a slim waist and tummy push ups will make it so you don't end up with a 6 pack but your core will be a little more slim :)
jump up and down 24/7 till you collapse... sure you will lose some :-P
(don't feel insecure about your weight)
