Who else here has PTSD not caused by military combat?

I know it's a sensitive subject, I'm sorry.

I'm trying to make a point that you do not have to be in the military in order to be diagnosed with PTSD. I did not serve in the military and was diagnosed shortly after my incident.

I'm not asking for your incident (however if you wish to share, go right ahead) just a simple yes will do.

The National Center for PTSD says that Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health problem that can occur after a traumatic event like war, assault, or disaster. There also lists other things that can cause it as well and many other highly regarded health websites also provide information on the causes. Even though it is associated with war, it is an anxiety disorder like many others and you don't have to be involved in a military incident to suffer from it. I have a mild case of PTSD from a series of things that happened at different times in my life

I did have it. It's discouraging when everything on-line says it's usually from war or seeing someone die but it can affect anyone and can be over anything! It took me a while to realise what was going on, I got depression and anxiety out of it.

Not to be rude or insensitive but is this "point of yours" worth the people's reminiscing at all?

having people reminded of their PTSD is a bit, y'know..
( I don't pity those with it, I just commend you on your efforts fighting it )

I completely understand that. I am not trying to remind people of their PTSD but I'm sick and tired of being told by my family but I don't have it because I didn't serve in the military whenever I spent a month in a psychiatric ward do my PTSD.

They won't take my word, or the doctors word that PTSD can be caused by many different things. So I decided to re-log into this account and ask.

It is possible for even a 19 year old to have it ( age doesn't matter ) some people are just extremely sensitive and can be hurt by the little things, Totally understandable.

They say talking about it helps so here it goes…

Me: I have nightmares, sometime pertaining to my incident, sometimes pertaining to how my family reacted ( not giving a rats ass), and sometimes pertaining to the future and what may happen if I don't recover. Flashbacks/paranoia/anxiety. I am very weary if males. Sexual content makes me sick (literally). Severe depression.

I actually have two counts of PTSD. One of them is gone now but when I was younger due to child abuse. Now as an adult I have it due to sexual abuse.

If your parents want to be scum, let them, teach yourself the ways of living, open your mind to the possibilities of life.

just keep breathing, think about the little things in life.
Forget your parents, they won't help, why have them exist.
let them pay your bills for you. It was all the stranger in my house was good for too.

Lucky for me I don't have to worry about my parents anymore. Shortly after my incident, due to the way they reacted I moved out in with my grandma. And then shortly after that I moved in with my boyfriend. We have an apartment together now and he is helping me recover.

Recovery is a slow step-by-step process and sometimes when you miss a step you come tumbling down back to the first one but he's always there to help me back up.
