Are you scared you will get Swine Flu? The media is making such a big thing about it, and now I'm actually concerned I'm going to get it. I'm 21 years old and in good health. Do you think I should I be that concerned about it ?

*I am not getting the vaccine because I have had a very bad reaction to a flu shot in the past, and I don't want to go down that road again

ok not to get all technical about it but the swine flu does not exist - it's just a made up bull for people to get their minds off the economy - its really all politics if you look at it from my point of view! Now if I disappear its only cause I mentioned something that I shouldn't have. Swine flu kills - it literally leaves you dry and dead within a couple of days - if you really look at it - and say "oh my god swine flu - its gonna get me - run for your lives!" All 100% bull! If your going to count how many people actually died from it - um like no more than 20 - even less! Now for those who smoke or chew anything - how many people die from lung cancer - forget that how many people will be diagnosed this year alone only for lung cancer? Over 38,000 people! In 2002 1.3 million people were diagnosed with it! How many will die? Over 400,000! Worldwide at least 4 million will die or have died of smoking! The point here that I'm trying to make is how come this won't become a pandemic? The tobacco companies distribute billions of cigarettes only over the country and so many people die - yet this isn't something serious! They put crystals, stuff that you would find on landfills in cigarettes and sell it to minors - and forget the whole bull if your not over 18 - if there's a will there's a way to get anything you want! Plus they put these disgusting horrifying things in chocolate or gum or cookies or anything else that we like to eat and yet no one sees it! But swine flu comes to town and only I'm not sure statistically how many died but I'm pretty sure it was no less than 20 and that is something serious! Get real people - this stuff is made up like I said to get our minds of economy or the fact that there is a war going on! So no you shouldn't worry about it - it won't affect you!

I work for the Allegheny County Health Department and while it is bad, its not as bad as the media is making it out to be. But yes, you are at risk. My ex-girlfriend who is 27 got it, but she's fine now. Spent a good while in the hospital, though.

I understand that you may be scared of getting a flu shot because you had a bad reaction to it, but I think you should understand there's a reason why it's mandatory in some areas. Here in Pittsburgh, public schools won't allow a student onto the premises without there current flu shot (among other vaccines) all because of this swine flu nonsense.

So while I'm not saying you're wrong to not get it, what I am saying is that IF you do get it as a result, you've got nobody to blame but yourself. And there's probably going to be a long line of people forming to tell you how dumb you were for not getting it.

Really its not that big of a deal. Its just a new mutated flu virus that it is highly contagious. Symptoms are the same as any other flu and just like any other flu it kills only old people and babies. Although if you have a weak immune system such as if you are old or have a baby then its a problem. Honestly I think its retarded people are going to get vaccinated because a new flu virus comes every season and that vaccination can't protect you from it cause it always changes or mutates every season and your body doesn't recognize the new one so you're just wasting money and time. I agree with Camilus. If the next strain of the flu is like the Spanish Flu then we got a huge problem on our hands.

The media makes its money from making everything into a big deal, its how they get their ratings up.

Even if you get it, you'll almost definitly beat it unless you have some undiagnosed condition, you're just a little too old and not nearly old enough to be seriously affected by it.

You shouldn't worry too much about it. I know a girl that got it and she is perfectly fine now. It will only have a big effect on the old, young, and anyone with a pre existing problems.
