What are good ways to fight depression?

I've had this lingering feeling of worthlessness / loneliness / desperation / self-disgust and I can't seem to shake it. My friends and family don't really know because I don't want to upset anyone. Kind of don't want to go to the doctor if I dont have to. I try to go outside everyday to make it better. What are some other things I can do to shake this feeling?
