I was always an athlete growing up. I started playing soccer when I was like 5 (using the word "athlete" very loosely in this case. I'm TERRIBLE at soccer. Running while maintaining control of a ball with my feet... not for me, haha), and then I started playing full contact football starting at age 8 and went all the way through high school. I stopped until my mid 20s, then I tried out and made it on a traveling semipro team and played until a few years ago. I also played baseball in little league, then switched to lacrosse in high school. I've always been a big gym guy too, I go 4-6 times a week depending on my schedule, but I'm very dedicated to it, it's pretty much my top priority. Then beyond that, I try to eat relatively healthy. No soda, no empty calorie snack foods, low fat and low sugar. I didn't eat as well in college due lack of discipline and poverty, haha, but I got away with it because of my 20-something metabolism. Now I gain five pounds if someone next to me drinks a milkshake, haha, so I have to be careful.
But all of this just requires a little discipline, that's it. You grow to love going to the gym and feel weird when you don't, and the eating is just about not letting your taste buds get the best of you, and eating for nutritional value over gratification. You can still eat terrible foods that taste great, but just in moderation. I've found that eating a small portion of something "bad" is better than gorging on it, because after either scenario I still have the satisfaction of eating a piece of cheesecake or something, so I might as well just limit the intake and get the experience without all the negative effects on my body. No one will be perfect, you just strive to be CONSISTENT.

Not anymore but I used to play rugby.
Now I keep fit by doing 300 pushups, then 100 sit ups then 10 reps of just small 10kg dumb bells (because too heavy weights are bad for you and I'm not trying to get huge or anything and just to stay toned) then another 10 reps then 20 reps and then I shoulder the weights and do 30 squats and then another 15 reps just with my left arm and then I do one minute of a core strengthening exercise which is hard to explain and then I do 20 more reps and then straight arm lift them a few times.
That's my daily workout routine.
What Guys Said
I played sports (soccer and baseball) when I was little, up until people started taking it too seriously and it wasn't fun any more.
In high school, I took gym class every year, even though it wasn't a requirement.
In university, my bike was my transportation so they kept me trim.
Ten years in the workforce later, I have rekindled my fitness by riding my bike every weekend for the entire afternoon, and going to the gym twice a week for strength training. All said, I have a pretty fast metabolism which kept me from getting fat during that decade of sloth and desk jobs.Lets see:
I have PT in the morning
Followed by a 5K morning run
Then after USAF work
I either hit the gym and workout there or i go and play some football (soccer) or flagfootball
or basketball
Later at night i do a 5K run
On the weekends i try to either go hiking and rockclimbing or riverraftingI go to the gym a lot. I eat well, and stick to a high protein diet.
Look here. This article has a lot of info beyond what the title indicates. Then read his site. You don't need to get his system, but his approach is enough. It is quite sound. www.maxworkouts.com/.../8-diet-and-exercise-tips-to-stay-young-healthySwim, bike, treadmill 4 times a week. Eat protein and take supplements. I wouldn't call myself "chiseled", but I'm fit. I was a wrestler in school, lettered in forensics.
I usually ride my bike, I did that in collage and I am still doing it.
It is a fantastic activity, you see new places, don't get board and you burn stupid amount of calories.I used to climb a lot, now I'm a couch potato. If you've been into a sport where it's all fanatic about the training you stop caring about all that stuff in the end. I find fitness freaks to be unbearable bores these days.
I hit the gym 6 times a week and keep my diet clean to keep myself at a good level of weight and to keep improving.
I wasn't used to playing sports. Now I stay in shape by hitting the gym, and I do some swimming to avoid the damage to the heart that the weight-lifting could cause.
Go to the gym everrryday. Eating chocolate cookies no problemo !
